At the edge of a towering crater, an abalone shell lay cracked open, spilling iridescent colors across the dust like a fresh aurora. Pearls clung to it as if trying to anchor the light. Above it hovered a bead dipped in gold—the last ember of a disappearing phenomenon. We strung them together to preserve the moment: Jupiter’s northern lights breathing their final breath.
